last night it finally stopped raining and we were both over our colds so we picked up nomi and spent our first night in the rv. it was freezing but erik is good at being the big spoon so it wasn't terrible. my anxiety was all over the place, every time i saw lights go by or heard an engine rev down the street i was sure that meant we were going to be murdered in our sleep, but somehow we made it through the night only to wake up at 7am, walk 15 feet into work, and eat bowls of coconut almond granola so good it made my toes curl. i love misty early mornings in the office together, reading the paper and drinking coffee out of small cups. also we decided that while we're super broke and paying off this rv, we are going to start eating bread again. we haven't had toast since last may! and while there's no dave's killer bread in california (reason #5325 why we want to move back to portland) it still feels really good to eat a baguette with tofutti and hummus, which is exactly what we did today while watching smiley face in the dark of the rv. although we don't get any electricity out there yet (last night we ate ramen by candlelight, aww) we do get way better internet outside in the rv than we have in any of the 3 homes we've last lived in.
today i had a great wandering conversation with one of my favorite hostel guests, a 66 year old woman named cathy who wears her long red hair all up in a bun and who has a lace scarf and wears these incredible shawls. she talked about big sur and sleeping outside and going on long walks. i asked her about how she maintains a feeling of personal safety while going out in the world and traveling alone and her answer was basically "sometimes i offer people sunflowers seeds" which was the cutest, most unrelated answer ever. then we talked about pike place market and how seattle is great to visit but not so great to live in, although my opinion of the city is marred by having lived there 9 years ago with an ex-boyfriend and all i really remember from being there was going to the space needle stoned to see a nighttime laser show. we just sat outside of the theater waiting to go in, all wrapped up in a blanket, giggling our asses off. visiting seattle, in my experience, was way more of a whirlwind adventure. i didn't relate this story to cathy but the last time i visited seattle i ended up drinking a bottle of whiskey and walking all over the city with one of my old friends i'd run into at a show (hi zach!) before we ended up maybe accidentally getting drugged by drinking an abandoned drink at a bar and then waking up the next morning with pictures on my digital camera of us helping his new roommate move in at like 3am and a receipt for bundt cake in my pocket. anyway i guess i just really like talking to lone older females who don't give a fuck and just like to ride trains. and also i like seattle, i wanna go back someday
